All That Nude Jazz 1

This work is part of my collection Erotic Homage to the Most Emblematic Dance Scenes in Film History.

In it, I wanted to pay tribute to that universe of rhythm, cheeky boldness, bodily precision, and electric theatricality that Bob Fosse turned into an unmistakable language. Here, two nude dancers play with their hats while offering the viewer the luminous curve of their buttocks, the tension in their legs, the firmness of their backs, and the insolent joy of a body that does not hide itself, but celebrates itself.

I did not want to paint a reproduction of a scene from the film, but rather an erotic reinterpretation of its impulse. The film offered me a choreography; I wanted to carry it into painting in order to turn movement into lasting presence, suggestion into visible flesh, and spectacle into a joyous affirmation of the female body.

The work is painted in acrylic on MDF board and measures 104 x 161 cm. The vertical format reinforces the stage elegance of the figures, while the brushwork and the contrasts of light allowed me to emphasize the musculature, the dynamism, and the sensual vibration of both dancers.

What interested me most in this painting was bringing together three pleasures in a single image: the pleasure of dance, the pleasure of the gaze, and the pleasure of cheeky boldness. That is why All That Nude Jazz 1 is neither a timid nor a melancholic scene. It is a lively, playful, uninhibited, and proudly exhibitionist work, where the female body appears as strength, play, freedom, and beauty.

About this painting

If in other works of the series the homage is born from a specific scene, here it is born above all from an atmosphere: that of the Fosse universe, where the body dances with precision, irony, eroticism, and theatrical joy. These two nude dancers do not apologize for being contemplated. They play, provoke, and smile. And in that game, they turn nudity into an artistic celebration.
